Family-Style Sunday Dinner, Simplified ✨

Hey friends❣️

Sunday dinners have become a tradition in our house now that both daughters ~ and a new granddaughter ~ live nearby. The only hitch? Pulling off a meal that feels special without missing out on the fun.

That’s where these clever Sunday dinner recipes come in ~ with some earlier prep they practically cook themselves while you pour a glass of wine and enjoy the chaos.

OVEN

These meals can be prepped during the day and slid into the oven timed exactly to when you want to serve dinner.

  1. Mediterranean Sheet Pan Salmon (pop it in 30 minutes before you want to serve!)
  2. Swedish Meatball Meatloaf
  3. Patricia Wells’ Beef Daube
  4. Salmon Packets
  5. Roast Chicken with Potatoes, Apples and Brown Cabbage (below)

INSTANT POT

The key to using the Instant Pot for entertaining is to prep everything ahead, and start the pot just as people arrive. Then press KEEP WARM until you're ready to serve.

  1. Italian Wedding Risotto
  2. Apple Butter Pulled Pork • Instant Pot, oven, or slow cooker!
  3. Instant Pot Barbacoa Recipe
  4. Instant Pot Beef Bourguignon (below)

LOW & SLOW (crock pot or Dutch oven)

The trick is choosing recipes that thrive in a low and slow environment and don't turn to mush.

  1. Crock Pot Frito Pie
  2. Slow Cooked Apple Bourbon Smothered Pork Chops
  3. Split Pea Soup with Ham
  4. Slow Cooked Hatch Pepper Chili
  5. Wine Braised Short Ribs
  6. Slow Cooked Cider Brats with apple-onion relish

FRIDGE!

In warm weather dinner can be assembled during the day and stashed in the fridge, with only a few garnishes to do just before serving. These are some of my faves!

  1. Fried Chicken Cobb Salad
  2. Thai Chicken Salad
  3. Curried Chicken Salad Plate
  4. Charcuterie Salad

Absolutely delicious. I’m not a baker and yet I was able to make this moist, rich, addictive cake.

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

lemon snack cake

Hey friends❣️ A brand new recipe for a brand new week. We all absolutely loved it on our end, hope you do too! Lemon Poppy Seed Ricotta Cake I must be in the right business, because sometimes I bake just to unwind. (And honestly, the kitchen counter feels a little bare without a cake on it.) Snack cakes are my sweet spot ~ the easygoing side of baking. Lemon poppy seed? That’s a no-brainer. And baking with ricotta? Total genius, and I’ve been onto that one for a while. I have a feeling you're...

blueberry pie

Hey friends❣️ If you haven't made a fruit pie this summer, this is your wake up call! Blueberry Pie One of the highlights of my summer is the one afternoon I set aside at least once a year to make a full on fruit pie. This year it's blueberry and it turned out so great. It's literally bursting with berries, and the lattice crust was so easy, I even made a video to show you how. I freely admit I've never been a pie crust person ~ I've always found it fiddly to make and I avoided it whenever...

scones

Hey friends❣️ Omg I cannot find a good scone in town. And that goes for most places I've lived over the years. Restaurant and bakery scones are usually too dry, too crunchy, flavorless, or all of the above. What's up with that? All they have to do is go to the Great Island site and follow instructions!! Coconut Cherry Scones Scones have a rustic/luxe vibe I love. I'd say they sum up the kind of baking I do best. In fact so many of the earliest recipes published from the Great Island kitchen...
