🌿 Sunday on Great Island

Hey friends❣️

Happy Sunday!

Today's a big day in my house ~ it's the first farmers market of the year. When I lived and cooked in Los Angeles, I could roll out of bed any day of the week, all year long ~ and hit a market. I don't have that luxury anymore, so I try not to miss a single one here in Wisconsin.

Today will probably be mostly seedlings and scones, but I'll take it.

This week I revisited one of the early recipes on the site, and now have a new quick dinner for the rotation ~ I’d forgotten how much I love this one.

The fresh green pasta feels just right for spring. It’s a Sicilian-style nut based pesto that's a nice change from the sharper basil-and-garlic pesto Genovese.

And it's interesting how pistachios have gone from being a luxury to a pantry staple in the years since I first published this recipe.

Pistachio Pesto Pasta

NEW! Apricot & Pistachio Puff Pastry Danish

Inspired by my fan favorite raspberry almond Danish, this new version is every bit as good. Both rely on two delicious shortcuts: frozen puff pastry and really great jam. I couldn't resist garnishing with those pretty green pistachios.

Did you miss these?

👉 🌟 "This cake is magical. I don’t need to make any other recipe from now on."

👉 Feels like a good day to make cookie bars

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun.

~ see you in the kitchen!

cookie bars

Hey friends❣️ I'm doing a little comfort baking today. Tuck any of these bars into a lunchbox, backpack, or work tote. Does anybody do bake sales anymore? I used to love them, and these would be perfect. Oats and chocolate go hand in so many favorite recipes of mine. I'm thinking oatmeal fudge bars and oatmeal chocolate chip cookie pie. My copy cat Brussels cookies might be the ultimate version! Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars get the recipe A few more everyday bars to bake Strawberry Jam...

Leftover Ham Recipes

Hey friends❣️ Happy Sunday (and Easter and Passover!) I’ve had a fun week ~ we spent a couple of days in beautiful Minneapolis for a Springsteen concert. My husband, daughter, and her boyfriend all went, but I’m not much for crowds so I mostly tagged along for the ride 😉 The drive was supposed to take 4 1/2 hours, but Siri had other plans and we ended up at 7 1/2 ~ winding along the Mississippi River was stunning. Yesterday I boiled up 2 dozen eggs to dye with my granddaughter. We made...

spring salad

knead Hey friends❣️ There’s nothing quite like early spring ~ it touches everything, especially what we’re cooking and eating. Our first farmers market is next week and I'm counting the hours. Happy April! The BEST of April... Flourless cakes always spike in April. My Belgian chocolate cake is one of the cakes I probably make the most because it's such a perfect dessert for entertaining. Almond lovers have lots of choices, too. My macaroon cake is dairy free as well as gluten free. Lemon...
