The year I got in Thanksgiving trouble...😵‍💫

Hey friends❣️

I think Thanksgiving could learn a thing or two from Friendsgiving: relax a little, don’t panic over lumpy gravy, and maybe give the marshmallow yams a year off. Some years we do both, and I have to say I usually prefer the casual night (don't tell anyone..)

Friendsgiving: What to Bring

The year I got in big Thanksgiving trouble? I remember it well…

We were headed to my sister’s house in Los Angeles and I’d been assigned an appetizer. Simple enough, right? Well, I showed up with an appetizer so enormous it took two of us to carry it in, and I can neither confirm nor deny what happened to the doorframe.

Once inside, it completely dominated her living room and came this close to upstaging the turkey. I was never asked to bring the appetizer again. Ever.

Moral of the story: never bring an appetizer bigger than your host’s coffee table.

The Epic Cheese Board

PS I love a fabulous cheeseboard...just serve it at your own house, on a day when there's no turkey in the oven :)

Pumpkin Cake w/ Caramel Frosting 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This cake was absolutely delicious and so easy to make! Definitely toast those pecans! The cake stayed moist for days and that caramel frosting is SO luscious!!! Yummy!!!! I’ll probably be using that frosting on other desserts as well!!! Sue, it’s so funny b/c you said your “pumpkin hater” husband had two slices of this cake…….well, my husband is not a big pumpkin guy, but he loved this cake. I was surprised at how he kept wanting to eat this cake, and then just a week or so later was talking about me making it again for Thanksgiving!!!!! This will be a go-to pumpkin dessert in my house! Thank you, Sue!

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

cranberry bundt cake

Hey friends❣️ My philosophy in the kitchen is simple: food shouldn’t be overworked, over-decorated, or over-thought. The goal is always the same ~ to eat and enjoy it! I love good-looking food, but the visuals should enhance, not disguise. And if a cake is exhausting to make, it’s probably not worth it. This brand new holiday cake proves my point ~ easy to mix, beautiful out of the oven, and completely irresistible once you cut into it. (And it won't be out of place on your January brunch...

pumpkin orzo

Hey friends❣️ My Monday emails always seem to take a practical turn, almost without me realizing it ~ but it makes sense. I’ve just cleared away the dishes from Sunday dinner, and now I’m staring down a brand new week with zero plan for what to eat. Good thing there’s coffee. ☕️ Cheesy Pumpkin Orzo with Turkey Meatballs Fresh up on the site today is a meal that appeals to all ages. I use canned pumpkin but you could just as easily roast a butternut squash (or any other variety) and use that....
