Are you having friends over for Halloween? I'll be holding down the fort while the kids trick-or-treat, and it's one of those nights where cozy comfort rules. I'll make a batch of chilimac, beef stew, or some sort of hearty soup. But for dessert there's only one choice: chocolate cake.

This extravagent layer cake is super dark and spooky ~ no candy eyeballs or gummy worms needed here!

A gluten free chocolate cake with a rich truffle-like interior. There's nothing in the treat bag remotely like it.

Ok now this is what chocolate is supposed to taste like (hint: it's not wrapped in tin foil.)

A nutty Mediterranean style cake for the dessert sophisticates and chocolate snobs in the room.

​Hot Fudge Cake​

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sometimes Halloween arrives with a cold front: skip the frostbite and have hot fudge cake instead.

For a true dark chocolate cake I recommend a dark cocoa powder like Hershey's Special Dark. Use it in place of regular cocoa powder in most cakes, or mix it 50/50 for a darker color and more classic chocolate flavor.
