What We’re Cooking in May 🌟

knead

Hey friends❣️

It's official. Winter's gone. Break out your salad bowls and your paper plate collection. Exhale...

This is the moment we all start cooking like it’s summer, even though the garden is still catching up. There’s a disconnect between what’s actually growing in May and what the supermarket is trying to sell us. So don’t go near those big tomatoes yet, they’re a trap! Stick with little cherry tomatoes this month ~ they’re almost always good.

Happy May!

First up ~ tomorrow is Derby Day so bring on the bourbon. Be sure to save some for the best bourbon meatballs ever, and don't miss my Kentucky bourbon vanilla pudding or my oh-so-decadent bourbon butter pecan brownies.

May the best horse win ~ but I’m betting on the brownies.

So even though it's too early for tomatoes, we've got rhubarb!

This is the month my husband does battle with a gangly bunch of yard-long rhubarb stalks every time he opens the fridge. Totally worth it, though ~ rhubarb bread is a beautiful thing. Rhubarb muffins, too.

If you’re into rhubarb, I’ve got the whole tart, rosy lineup here.

May weather is finally reliable enough to venture outdoors for meals, and potluck makes a comeback.

Mom's Potato Salad narrowly edges out Greek Lemon Potato Salad for most popular, with French and German not far behind!

And I don't know about you but when I think May I think breakfast in bed. At least for one Sunday ❤️ And I happen to have some of the best breakfast-in-bed recipes around.

The savory:

The sweet: (it has to be scones)

Last but not least May is Cinco de Mayo month and time for some of my favorite food (I lived in SoCal for 30 years.)

Here's to a delicious month!

Sue Moran

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

Best hummus recipe

Hey friends❣️ We’re hummus people…always have been. It’s been our go-to appetizer or snack for decades, and while taste in hummus can vary, I maintain that there are a few qualities every great hummus must have: It must be silky smooth (I can’t abide a grainy hummus) It must be rich in tahini for a luxe satisfying experience And it must not have a harsh acidic taste (the downfall of so many store-bought brands) Lemony Hummus get the recipe This recipe uses Meyer lemons but regular lemons work...

I think you'll love this... 3-Ingredient White Chocolate Mousse get the recipe Note: be sure to buy real white chocolate, it makes all the difference. It's a little bit pricey but you only need 6 ounces. I used Ghirardelli. What you're loving lately 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Chocolate Pavlova "I had never made a Pavlova. This was...

edible spring flowers

Hey friends❣️ Happy Sunday! My world is flowering and I'm happy. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for early spring edible flowers like: pansies violets chive blossoms lilacs honeysuckle even dandelions You can toss them in salads, or on a spring appetizer platter. Decorate cakes, cheesecakes, and cookies, I've even been known to scatter them on a side of salmon or in a bowl of soup. I make a gorgeous violet lemonade that is the most gorgeous color. And of course, cocktails! No Bake Strawberry...
