When in doubt, just add chocolate chips 🍪

Hey friends❣️

I'd be hard pressed to think of anything I love better than baking with chocolate chips. No shame here, these little guys make everything better.

Chocolate Chip Cherry Muffins

I'm celebrating the humble chocolate chip today, and truth be told, it's one of the through-lines to so many of my favorite baking recipes. I love the minis, the jumbos, the chunks, the feves...

My favorites?

If you want to get fancy, try feves: oval-shaped chocolate pieces invented by the French designed to melt evenly (as opposed to chocolate chips which are designed to hold their shape.)

Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

One of my go to recipes. Makes the perfect amount for me at home or to share at work. I do under bake them by 5 minutes as suggested. A very quick and easy recipe.

Split Pea Soup with Ham

This recipe is very close to what I’ve been making for decades – and used to serve in a restaurant. I often use the bone from leftover bone-in ham and do appreciate just a hint of clove so often add a few grains of clove. And saw a tip a few years ago to thaw frozen peas and just before serving, add them in just to warm them up. I now do that just for the increase in pea texture. I do like it chunky and not as pureed as some. Great recipe! It’s one of my favorites! And sometimes I add a drop or two of Liquid Smoke – after it’s done – if the ham was not ‘smoky’ enough.

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

Fried chicken Cobb salad

Hey friends❣️ I’m back this morning with something healthy and indulgent ~ which, now that I think about it, pretty much sums up the Great Island style. I could eat this salad every night for a week! Fried Chicken Cobb Salad Think the crunchiest lettuce, fresh summer corn kernels, crispy bacon, silky avocado, luscious eggs, juicy little gem tomatoes, and creamy blue cheese. Did you think I deep fried chicken for this recipe? Think again! I use my favorite shortcut to make it so much easier....

blueberry poppy seed bread

Hey friends❣️ I'm definitely on a roll lately, can you tell? I mean any week I can publish Tomato Melts, Boursin Butter, and No-Bake Chocolate Cheesecake is a good week in my book. And I'm finishing strong with a phenomenal quick bread~ Blueberry Poppy Seed Bread (one bowl) It's soft and moist, loaded with berries, and has my signature crunchy crackly top. Slice it nice and thick, sit down with a cup of something steamy and give it a taste test. Don't talk with your mouth full, I already know...

fig cake

Hey friends❣️ We’re in the home stretch, people. August has its own kind of energy ~ slower, softer, a little overgrown. The kitchen’s full of fruit flies, corn husks, and peaches begging to be baked. There’s good eating to be done, for sure. Your AUGUST kitchen playlist, in no particular order (It's really hard to pick favorites this month but I'll call out the zucchini bars, the zucchini layer cake, and those mouth watering masa harina biscuits. And let's just say I totally get how the...
