Doing a Little Hippie Era Baking Today✌️🌸

Hey friends❣️

The Hippie generation's contribution to our food culture is often forgotten ~ whole grains, granola, brown rice, miso, sprouts...and these glorious muffins!

Morning Glory Muffins

Morning Glory muffins are a child of the 1970s. They was created by Pam McKinstry, who owned the Morning Glory Café on Nantucket Island. After the recipe was published in 1981 in Gourmet magazine it exploded in popularity (it was later selected as one of the magazine’s 25 favorite recipes from the past 50 years!) The Morning Glory craze faded by the 2000s, but these chunky muffins are too good to be lost to history. (I love these muffins so much I turned them into a cake, too!)

Brooklyn Blackout Cake 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Spectacular! My Brooklyn-born and raised mom has been talking about her fond memories of Ebinger’s blackout cake for ages, so it was only fitting that I make her this cake for her birthday. She loved it! I knew it would be delicious because every component on its own was amazing – the cake, the pudding, the frosting. They came together for a rich, super-chocolatey, decadent delight. Thank you for this recipe!!

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

strawberry ice cream

Hey friends❣️ This one's just strawberries, buttermilk, and quiet perfection. Strawberry Buttermilk Ice Cream The first homemade ice cream of summer is a big deal for me. I'm a kid again as I watch it magically churn away in my ice cream machine. I always take a taste as it's churning ~ just for quality assurance ;) (No worries if you don't have the machine, I give no-churn instructions too.) fine the one I use here Buttermilk is one of our favorite ingredients in the Great Island kitchen, I...

blackberry pie bars

Hey friends❣️ Just a few things we're making (or dreaming about making) this week. It's hot and wet here, and with the air conditioning cranking I'm leaning in to my cozy dinner bowls... Blackberry Slab Pie Bars At my grocery store the berries are housed right at the entrance. So I start off every shopping trip daydreaming about what I'm going to do with the stash I've (of course) loaded into my cart right off the bat. Blackberry pie bars can be made with just about any fresh fruit, and even...

Tomato Flight

Hey friends❣️ I can't resist a great idea, especially when it involves tomatoes. Summer Tomato Flight In culinary terms, a “flight” is a small lineup of similar items ~ like wine, cheese, mini desserts, or olive oils ~ served together for tasting. A tomato flight is a fun creative spin on your next summer salad platter. It's easy to pull off ~ and of course I've got lots of delicious topping ideas to get you started (My "BLT" tomato is my fave.) Let's get started! Just slice up big juicy...
