My Holiday Cookie Short List (the ones I actually make) ⭐

Hey friends❣️

Yesterday I got stuck in a scroll loop and, no surprise, it was holiday cookies.

As my stress level starts to climb, I have to put the phone down and remind myself that I already know exactly what works. The cookies everyone loves, and hopes I’ll make every year — here are five holiday cookies I never skip. (And because I can’t help myself, I’m throwing in five bonus cookies, too.)

Scroll down to see this month's Recipe Roundtable winner ~ Raelene from Perth, Australia. Her Walnut Ginger Butter Balls are fresh up on the site today, and a must make!!

My Best Gingerbread Cookie Recipe

clockwise from top left

  1. Classic Gingerbread ~ I'm making a batch for the annual cookie decorating party I'm going to this weekend. It's a dream dough for cookies and even gingerbread houses ~ it's sturdy but moist, and tastes like Christmas.
  2. Thin and Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies ~ search traffic for chocolate chip cookies is highest this month, so I always add them to my holiday cookie assortment.
  3. Fudgy Brownie Cookies ~ chocolate lovers won't accept anything less.
  4. Maple Glazed Oatmeal Cookies ~ no bells and whistles, just an old fashioned favorite.
  5. Chocolate Ganache Thumbprints ~ luxe!
  6. Peanut Butter Blossoms are a classic for a reason.
  7. Cranberry White Chocolate Shortbread ~ unique and pretty.
  8. Buttery Pecan Sandies ~ proof that a great holiday cookie doesn't need sprinkles.
  9. Soft Sugar Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting ~ these cookies are soft, plush, and satisfying.
  10. Chewy Ginger Cookies are a family favorite here and always the first cookie we make to jump start the season.

Raelene's Walnut Ginger Butter Balls

Congrats Raelene, and thanks for sharing this amazing cookie with us, I've never had anything quite like it! The little pop of bright ginger in the center is awesome :)

Pistachio Shortbread Cookies 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I was looking for an orange chocolate cookie recipe for a Christmas cookie competition at work and found one that I liked on this site only to discover that I don’t have any oranges. But I did have some chopped pistachio/walnut mix left over from making baklava a few weeks ago, so I opted for this recipe instead.
I wanted them to look extra festive so added some chopped cranberries too. My first time making shortbread cookies and they turned out great! I halved the recipe and make two logs, about 10 cookies each. Everything was chopped pretty small so they were easy to slice. I even rolled them in sugar afterwards which made them look so pretty. Great recipe! I will be make orange ones next!

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

Easy cheese appetizers with Boursin and Laughing Cow

Hey friends❣️ I think I love the quiet lead-up to the holidays even more than the big days themselves ~ especially those smaller, cozier get-togethers that happen along the way. Our Hallmark movie-night plans last weekend were derailed by the flu, which turned out to be a gift in disguise. Now I’ve got a little extra time to dial in the appetizers I love to serve buffet-style for dinner. It's my favorite way to host. Mini Cheese Ball Holiday Platter ~ just add crackers. Easy December dinners ~ Bean & Bacon Soup

Hey friends❣️ You’ve probably figured it out by now ~ Christmas cookies can’t be dinner every night. I’m keeping things sane (and delicious) this month with a handful of easy dinners that practically cook themselves. White Bean and Bacon Soup I make it with canned beans when I'm strapped for time...so good! Italian Wedding Risotto ~ the family loves this and for December I make it even quicker with frozen meatballs, or instant sausage meatballs (just roll and brown!) Jamie Olivers No Yeast...

gingerbread scones

Hey friends❣️ If I haven’t turned you into a scone lover yet, I’m not doing my job. Scones are the perfect little breakfast bake — richer than muffins, not as indulgent as cake, and unbelievably quick to pull together. (This gingerbread version uses two of my favorite shortcuts.)I hope you try them — the soft gingerbread spice and crackly vanilla glaze are pure holiday comfort. Gingerbread Scones more gingerbread! Glazed Gingerbread Bundt Cake ~ it has the most gorgeous golden color! Easy...
