The British School Cake Everyone’s Talking About 🍰

Hey friends❣️

Do any of you watch the Great British Baking Show? This fun cake was the 'technical challenge' this week ~ it's a nostalgic little dessert that used to be served in UK schools. I tried it and…wow. New favorite.

British School Cake!

The combination of the vanilla sponge with a thin layer of sweet icing and the silky custard is amazing. If you've made my Irish Apple Cake you've got the idea. (The custard is similar to my Creme Anglaise except it uses whole milk, not cream.)

Do any of you remember this cake? Hit reply and let me know!

The cold mornings have nudged me back into hot breakfasts ~ this is how I do it.

I'm sorry but this is the most perfect sandwich ever invented.

Every September the peppers at the farmers market slay me...so this is for dinner tonight.

Butter Pecan Cornbread 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is the best cornbread ever. It’s quite addictive. And every crumb has disappeared at two potlucks.

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isn’t that what it’s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

Safe Edible Cookie Dough

Hey friends❣️ Snacking on cookie dough used to be an innocent perk of baking ~ lick the spoon, sneak a bite, no second thoughts. Then came the food-safety wake-up calls. First, raw eggs (Salmonella). Later, and more surprisingly, raw flour, after E. coli outbreaks in the 2000s showed that flour itself can carry harmful bacteria. Home cooks tried heating their own flour, but the FDA has since warned that this isn’t a reliable solution. Only commercially heat-treated flour is considered truly...

homemade yogurt

Hey friends❣️ Cold enough for ya? When I’m hunkered down for a chilly weekend I usually bake, but this time I changed things up and made yogurt instead. This is the high-protein homemade yogurt I learned to make in my very first restaurant job, and I’ve been making it ever since. Even if you don’t think you love yogurt, give this a try ~ it’s creamy and mild, not sharp or harsh, and naturally high in protein. And then there’s the viral 2-Ingredient Japanese “Cheesecake” ~ one of the rare...
