This is the kind of casual dessert recipe I love to develop, especially when it involves almond.

Almond is one of those flavors you smell almost as much as you taste ~ its unique aroma comes largely from benzaldehyde, a compound that’s also found in the scent of flowers. It's why almond has that warm, floral, almost intoxicating quality that feels so different from other flavors.

I find all of this so interesting, and it helps explain why I can't resist anything with almond.
