We've Got a Recipe Roundtable Winner! ๐ŸŒŸ

โ€‹

Hey friendsโฃ๏ธ

You guys really came through for our first challenge, yay!

Our winner this month is Stephanie, from Virginia. Her Spiced Chili blew us away, and it's featured on the site today!

I absolutely love this chili, it's not hot, just filled with warm aromatic spices that marry together into the most unusual chili I've had in a long time. Bravo Stephanie!

Great ideas from runners-up

  1. Becky sent in a super simple chili recipe perfect for beginner cooks and she includes a jar of salsa. There are some amazing salsas on the market today so this is a fun idea for adding flavor.
  2. Adele adds a can of pork and beans with tomato sauce.
  3. Linda's Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Chili calls for a packet of Ranch Dressing, which Wendy also uses in her chili.
  4. Linda's camping friendly Venison Chili Recipe uses Worcestershire sauce and cocoa, which must give it nice depth of flavor.
  5. Nancy swears by Jane Brody's veggie packed chili and says it's all about the spice mix: 5 teaspoons brown sugarโ€‹
    5 teaspoons chili powderโ€‹
    1 tablespoon ground cuminโ€‹
    1 tablespoon oreganoโ€‹
1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
    1/2 teaspoon corianderโ€‹
    1/8 teaspoon ground clovesโ€‹
    1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
  6. Karen's favorite game day chili calls for Vidalia onions and a good amount of fresh mushrooms.
  7. Several of you swear by V8 in your chili.
  8. Barbara adds a cup of macaroni to her chili which she says is the perfect comfort food that they share it with friends who are recovering from illness.
  9. Nancy uses short ribs in her chili, which I absolutely love.
  10. Linda G's Bourbon Old Fashioned Chili recipe in honor of her late mother includes....you guessed it, bourbon and a touch of orange, yum!

โ€‹Easy Apple Butter ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

My family loves apple butter, and after reading this recipe, I decided to give it a try. I purchased Jonathon apples from a local orchard, and made this recipe. It was the best apple butter ever! I will definitely keep the recipe, and make a double batch next fall! Many thanks, Sue!

I finally made this today using the tomato jam I made and some Uncle Nearest Whiskey. I used the BBQ sauce in my fridge. This was absolutely WONDERFUL! Iโ€™ll be making it often, but doubling the sauce recipe to use on other things!

I love to make delicious food, photograph it, and write about it, but mostly, I just love to EAT. Isnโ€™t that what itโ€™s all about? My recipes are bold and vibrant, but totally approachable ~ and my philosophy? We should all have the tools to feed ourselves well, and the confidence to cut loose a little in the kitchen. Food should be fun!

Golden roast chicken, crispy skin

Hey friendsโฃ๏ธ This is the better-than-rotisserie chicken that just makes life a little bit easier, and a whole lot juicer. Roast one (or better yet two) and eat well for a week. Save the carcass to make soup and you'll basically win meal prep, win life. Perfect Roast Chicken (with lemon and herbs) I try to balance full-on cooking with shortcuts so I don't wear myself out getting dinner on the table. In this case I'm not above instant mash and frozen peas. Or have you tried those Minute rice...

British School Cake with Custard

Hey friendsโฃ๏ธ Do any of you watch the Great British Baking Show? This fun cake was the 'technical challenge' this week ~ it's a nostalgic little dessert that used to be served in UK schools. I tried it andโ€ฆwow. New favorite. British School Cake! The combination of the vanilla sponge with a thin layer of sweet icing and the silky custard is amazing. If you've made my Irish Apple Cake you've got the idea. (The custard is similar to my Creme Anglaise except it uses whole milk, not cream.) Do any...

oatmeal fudge bars

Hey friendsโฃ๏ธ These outrageous oatmeal fudge bars are the after school snack we all wish we had growing up ~ I dare you to walk by without trimming off a sliver! Oatmeal Fudge Bars You know I love a good Starbucks copy cat recipe, in fact I've got a whole collection of them! But I also love a great bar dessert, aaaannnnd I'm a sucker for the chocolate oatmeal combo, so as far as I'm concerned these are the perfect baking project for the weekend. Let me know what you think! Flourless Almond...
